What for mass media

Mass media is for sharing information within the society with various objectives sake of well being of the society. Always we seek for better service from them as attentive and responsible institutions of the society. Journalists or media persons work to provide us such services by involving to report events and present the creations through those media.

People demands  information important for their lives to maintain  them properly. Chiefly mass media use to fulfill several important objectives as following

1. To compile information.
2. To compile education/ Advisory information
3. Entertaining
4. Persuasion
5. Surveillance  
6. Maintain co-relation of the society
7. Interpretation
8. Socialization

But the problem is contemporary mass media are not working for fulfill such objectives. They mostly work to fulfill their industrial objectives based on profit. 

Communication Models

What is model?

Communication models are the theological constructions which help to understand and study communication. Most of communication models are presented as pictorial drafts. But early models are presented in words. 

Models use to explain how the elements of communication relate to each other and how does the communication happen.Models give us following benefits . 

• models help us to study communication in theoretical frame.
• models could use to do experiments about various communication situations
• They could use for predictions about results of communication
• They help us to expand the study field
• Models simplify the complications of communication process to benefiting studies. 

Models can divide in to two main categories. 

• linear models
• Non linear models

Linear models are the models which explain communication as a process start from sender and end at the receiver. They depict the communication as one way process. those models do not consider about the feed back of the communication. 

E.g.   Aristotle's model

          Shannon and weaver model

          David K. Berlo's model

Non linear models (Two way models)

Non linear models depicts communication as continuous two way or circular or interactive process.
This kind of models mainly consider about response of the communication.

Feed back/response of the communication makes the communication as two way process. 

E.g.    Schramm and Osgood's model

           Riley  - Riley model

           Westly and McLean model

Beginning and expansion of media studies

Communication studies apparently started since the 1930s but old teachings also have done some kind of learning practices related to communication. 

Ancient Greek philosophers such as Aristotle, Plato - Cicero- Socrates were considered theoretical factors related to oral communication.
